Firefighters from the Kern County Fire Department rescued a man after he drove his car into a canal in Buttonwillow, California, on July 8.

California Highway Patrol said the driver was unfamiliar with the area and going “way too fast” before entering the canal adjacent Main Drain Road at 6.45 pm.

“This rescue was successful due to great coordination and having trained in swift water rescues,” firefighters said.
